Lake Local has developed curriculum based upon the Ohio Academic Content Standards. Our teachers regularly participate in professional learning communities and are heavily involved in staff development opportunities focusing on standards based-education, data analysis, assessment, instruction, and technology integration. Our district mission is to be the best organization for learning and toward this end; staff from each building has developed action plans consistent with our district goals and objectives. We use Lake Student Records, a data resource with information about individual student learning, to drive our instruction and assessment process. Teachers use Pinnacle Plus, an electronic grade book program in grades 3 -12. Parents are able to view their child's grades electronically. We identify every opportunity to embed technology across the curriculum, exposing students with the 21st century tools they will need when they exit our doors. Our curriculum maps are formatted electronically to enable teachers to constantly update their lesson plans, resources and assessments during collaborative planning. Teachers regularly use smart boards, classroom performance systems, document cameras and grade cam to enhance teaching and learning. Teachers also frequently post notes and lessons on line. Our staff works collegially and is very involved in teaming at grade levels and content areas. Teachers have common planning which allows us to effectively collaborate and team. We were very pleased with our 2010 Ohio Achievement Assessment and Ohio Graduation Test scores. Our district has been ranked EXCELLENT WITH DISTINCTION and has met Adequate Yearly Progress for the third consecutive year. Our district's performance index and value-added score has been in the top three percent in the state for the past three years.

Lake provides high quality programming including: advanced placement, college tech prep, dual credit classes, after school and summer school intervention programs in grades 3-12, gifted education programs, robust fine arts programs, special needs programming and an expansive extracurricular program. In 2009-2010, Lake was rated as an "EXCELLENT with DISTINCTION" BY the Ohio Department of Education meeting 26 OUT OF 26 indicators. Previously, Lake was one of four districts to receive the Ohio Award for Excellence. Lake High School recently received the Ohio Award of Distinction for outstanding Ohio Graduation Test results, while our middle school has been recognized several times in the past by the Ohio Department of Education for outstanding value-added gains achieved by our middle school students. Recently, Lake Elementary was nominated for national recognition as a Blue Ribbon School based upon the outstanding academic achievement displayed by their students over the past five years.

Our performance index is a 107.9, ranking us among the highest performing districts in Ohio. Our composite ACT score improved by .8 of a point during the past two years and has been trending upwards. Improvement in this area is essential as we prepare our students for higher education. All of our efforts are directed toward becoming, "The Best Organization for Learning"!
