Lake Coaches Receive National Certification Updated!

Eight coaches now have achieved Accredited Interscholastic Coach (AIC) certification.

Ohio interscholastic (school-based) coaches are required to be certified by the Ohio Department of Education. Lake Local Schools was the first school district in Ohio that required all interscholastic coaches to have completed the National Federation of High School Associations’ (NFHS) “Fundamentals of Coaching” course.

This course is recognized nationally as the most focused and direct course for all education-based athletic coach training. The course deals directly with expectations and challenges that are a part of school-based athletics: An education-oriented mission and purpose of interscholastic sport programs, safety and well-being concerns, organization and management of school teams, physiological dynamics and challenges with adolescent participants, and education-based outcomes as a result of participation in interscholastic athletics.

After the “Fundamentals of Coaching” course was introduced to coaches in 2007, additional online training courses have continued to be developed for the school-based coach. Now, a nationally accredited series of courses provides opportunities for interscholastic coaches to achieve full certification. The “Accredited Interscholastic Coach” (AIC) certification is gradually receiving more attention throughout the country.

Currently, Lake Local Schools is encouraging all coaches (head and assistant) to attain the AIC certification. To date, we are proud to note that there are currently TEN Lake coaches AIC certified; this number represents the most AIC-credentialed coaches in any one school district in Ohio at this point!

Important Reminders for Parents of SPRING Sport Athletes:

Parents of students who intend to participate in SPRING athletic teams (Baseball, Softball, B & G Track, and Boys Tennis) are reminded of two very important items:

• Visit and download the necessary Pre-Season Parent Information forms ( below under "Athletic Links") PRIOR to your student participating in pre-season training sessions. Instructions are listed within this link as to whom all paperwork is to be returned and when the paperwork is due.
• Pre-Participation Sport Physicals: For parents who will need to have their student complete a Pre-Participation Physical Exam ("Sport Physical"), Mercy Medical Health Center on the Lake Campus provides physicals through Dr. Stetler's office for only $25. Appointments can be made by calling 330-877-0781 (no walk-ins, please).
