Deputy Dave McKay and Deputy Laura Blackstock are the school resource officer's (SRO's) for Lake Local School District. They aren't just out driving through the district in their patrol cars either. They are involved one-on-one with students everyday. Whether they are assisting with bus traffic in the mornings and afternoons or talking with students during their lunch break, the deputies are working on building relationships with each student they come in contact with.

Deputies McKay and Blackstock have been speakers to the freshmen students during their mentoring classes, are part of the LHS' iCARE team, Lake Community Cares, and Lake Leaders. They participate in health classes informing students on the effects of drugs and alcohol and explain to the high school students the legal system if they get caught with illegal drugs. They also answer easy questions students might have like how to pay a speeding ticket.

If you do see them in their cars it is usually when they are driving between schools to ensure all students in the district are safe. There are security plans in place for each school in the district which are practiced by fire drills and lock down drills. Deputies McKay and Blackstone take part in the lock down drills and are currently working to make them more efficient and safe for our students.
