The meeting was called to order at: 3:35
No corrections or additions
 
  • Bond Issue: Mr. Jeff Wendorf
    • The May Bond Issue lost by 192 votes
    • Encourage everyone to visit www.citizensforlake.com or Citizens for Lake Facebook page to learn more about the Bond Issue
    • We will not be spending money to advertise for this Bond Issue; instead we will focus on asking people to fill out Pledge cards, and making calls to remind those people to get out to the polls! If you have not already been asked to fill one out, do so, and return it to any Main Office in the district.

·         Treasurer: Jessica Swartz:
o   We received 1088.50 for Room Parties, which is up from last year
o   We received $185.00 for PTO Membership, which is down from the past.
o   The Playground Rehab has been paid off. That included items such as the paint for the 4 square.
 
·         Corresponding Secretary: Angie Linsky:
o   Nothing to report
 
·         Birthday Memorial: Mandi Stephenson:
o   Birthday slips been sent home for the beginning of the school year. Will begin sending home October Birthday Memorials next week.
o   Mrs. Beachy will be purchasing some new books for the children to choose from.
 
·         Fundraiser: Angie Linsky and ?
o   Some people are still turning in Great Western orders.
o   They will deliver in the middle of October. Try to set up delivery for conference nights, so parents can pick up larger orders at the same time.
o   2 children sold 48 items or more, and will get to throw a pie at Mr. Kandel!
o   Top classes: 1st place: Mrs. Collins      2nd place: Miss Dailey. They will get a pizza party
o   Entertainment books gave us an extra $500 to spend on prizes for the fundraiser. We brainstormed ideas for what those prizes should be. Angie will look into some of them further.
 
 
  • Hospitality: Amy Kunes & Dave Lloyd
    • Room Parent tea went well.
    • Dazzling Desserts for the teachers will start next week.
    • The committee is working out a menu for conference nights.
 
  • Membership: Joanna Miller
    • 181 memberships in at this point, and more coming.
    • 1st grade: 52; 2nd grade: 54; 3rd grade: 36 and K: 39. By percentage the 2nd grade are the current winners.
 
·         Popcorn/sno cones: Michelle Fedor:
o   We continue to charge .25 for popcorn. Lake and Uniontown elementary both raised theirs to .50.
o   For high five Fridays: we will begin giving certificates for free popcorn.
o   Slushies will now be picked up by the teachers, except for Kindergarten. We will continue to deliver those.
 
·         Publicity: Mary Pastore
o   Mr. Kandel got a picture in the Hartville News of the Kindergarteners first day of school.
 
·         Room Parents: Joanna Miller:
o   $1088.50 collected
o   $51 per classroom
o   Teachers will be notified tomorrow of who their chairperson will be.
 
·         School Spirit: Jennifer Marshall and Mary Pastore:
o   Starts next week through October 21
o   Michelle brought in some samples. New colors that will be available will be neon and bright pink.
 
·         Santa’s Shop: Mrs. Cindy Kandel and Erica Rhodes:
o   All items have been purchased, inventoried, and priced
o   Volunteer list has been created
o   3000 items purchased
 
·         Schwan’s: Shannon Miller:
o   Our September sale brought in $2102. That will leave us with $315 to split with Lake.
o   The sale took place on an evening where Lake Elementary had a meeting and Football practice was also going on.
o   Letter for October has been sent to copy. Books will go out next week.
 
·         Special Services: Jessica Swartz:
o   Volunteer lists have been emailed to all committee chairpersons.
 
·         Yearbook: Angie Linsky & Michelle Fedor:
o   We will offer pre-sale for yearbooks this year. We will have a table set up on conference nights.
o   Cover will be done next month.
 
·         Teacher Representatives: Kostiuk, Adams, Deckerd, Manolas
o   Kindergarten would like to thank PTO for helping with the KRAL testing.
o   Thank you for the emails that they can forward on to parents.
o   Teachers really appreciate the upgrades to the Teacher Lounge.
 
·         New Business:
o   New swing chains have been purchased.Split the cost of with Lake Elementary.
o   We will now be offering pre-sale for the yearbook
o   We changed High Five Fridays. Now the children will earn certificates for free popcorn.
o   A parent suggested that we find more ways to inform parents on all the great things we are doing in PTO.
 
·         Old Business:
o   No old business
 
·         Principal: Gary Kandel:
o   Thanks for the Room Tea.
o   Mr. Kandel has begun purchasing IPads for the use in K-1 grades, as well as purchasing some digital cameras. As the need arrives, he will continue purchasing additional items. 
o   Mrs. Manolas wrote a grant over the summer. Received 9 IPads.
o   We will NOT be starting our own preschool. The county preschool is already in place at the school.

The meeting was called to order at: 7:00 p.m.

                                                    No corrections or additions to the minutes

 ·         LMS Principal: Brian Reed:

o   Explained and proposed a program called School Bucks. 

Ø  Online buying site where profits would go to Lake Schools.  Parents would be responsible for acquiring businesses.  70% of purchase price would go to Lake.  Example: $36 service for $10.  $7 would go to Lake.

Ø  Discussed Carnival Donors getting involved with the site. 

 

·         Treasurer: Jessica Swartz:

o   8/1/11 Beginning Balance is $4750.48.  8/31/11 Ending Balance is $4043.98

o   Jessica asked teachers to get their receipts to her so she can reimburse.

 

·         Corresponding Secretary: Angie Linsky:

o   Sent wedding cards to Mrs. Deckerd and Mrs. McClary.

o   Sent $25 gift card to Willy because his father passed.

·         Birthday Memorial: Mandi Stephenson:

o   Lindsay took care of birthdays in August and September. 

o   Mandi will get a list of birthdays from Karen and begin working on October birthdays.

 

·         Book Fair: OPEN

o   Still open if anyone would like to make the commitment.

 

·         Carnival: Angie Linsky, Michelle Fedor, and Jenny Anderson:

o   On Calendar for April 13, 2012

 

·         Celebration of Learning: Jenny Anderson

o   No report.

 

·         Fundraiser: Angie Linsky and???

o   Angie needs a co-chair. This will be Angie’s last year

o   Great Western packets went home 8/31.  Fundraiser ends 9/14. 

o   Entertainment Books will begin October 18 and end October 29.  Angie hopes to sell at football games again this year.

 

·         Nominating: Pam Stewart:

o   No report.

 

·         Hospitality: Amy Kunes and Dave Lloyd

o   Planning for the Room Parents Tea.  Waiting to see approximately how many will be in attendance. 

 

·         Membership: Joanna Miller:

o   We are receiving some forms, but talked about the need to send an email reminding parents to send forms and money in. 

 

·         Popcorn/Sno Kones: Michelle Fedor:

o   Sno Kone day was a success, but in the future we’ll ask teachers to pick them up in the teacher’s lounge instead of PTO delivering to everyone. 

 

·         Publicity: Mary Pastore

o   Gary will communicate with Mary about upcoming events to get into the Hartville News. 

 

·         Rebate: Billy Joe Muckley:

o   Third grade will continue to cut Box Tops/Campbell’s.  Second grade will help in this effort!

o   We received over $1,600 from Box Tops, Campbell’s labels, Tyson labels and Acme receipts! 

 

·         Room Parents: Joanna Miller:

o   We are receiving forms.  Some classes have many parent volunteers and some have very few. 

 

·         Santa’s Breakfast: Lindsay Anderson:

o   No report

 

·         School Spirit: Jennifer Marshall and Mary Pastore:

o   A design has been chosen.  Items will be at the Room Parents Tea to look at as well is in the display case in the rotunda. 

o   Will run October 10th – 21st. 

 

·         Santa’s Shop: Cindy Kandel and Erica Rhodes

o   Continuing to purchase items, particularly Dad/Grandpa items.

 

·         Schwan’s: Shannon Miller:

o   Letters are being printed.  First sale is September 20.  Gary will post on Facebook.  Michelle will post on PTO site.

 

·         Scholarship: Mandi Stephenson:

o   No report.

 

·         Special Services: OPEN:

o   We’re receiving volunteer forms!

 

·         Yearbook: Angie Linsky and Michelle Fedor:

o   Cover should be done in October.

o   We discussed the possibility of a pre-sale for the yearbook.

 

·         Teacher Representatives: Judie Wendorf, Cindy Mullen, Sonya Wartman

o   Thank you, thank you, thank you!

o   What a great day for slushies!  Thank you!

 

·         New Business:

o   A vote was taken for the purchase of 8 new swings for the playground.  A YES vote was received.  We are waiting to see if Lake Elementary votes YES as well.  If so, we will split the cost. 

o   We discussed adding two more four squares.

 

·         Old Business:

o   We’re holding off on purchasing a tree in memory of Kimberly Bosko until we see if the Bond Issue passes in Nov.

 

·         Principal: Gary Kandel:

o   Thank you for painting and updating the teacher’s lounge and the office. 

 o   The bussing schedule is an adjustment for everyone!  Be patient as it works itself out. 

o   In January, the cafeteria will be implementing a new system so parents can add money to their child’s lunch account by going online and using a credit card.  Parents can also place restrictions on extra items (pizza, milk, dessert, etc.). 

o   At our next meeting, Superintendent Jeff Wendorf will be talking about the Bond Issue.  For this campaign, the goal is to have teacher committees as well as community committees to spread the word and inform voters.

The meeting was called to order at: 10:00am.

No corrections or additions

 

·         Treasurer: Jessica Swartz:

o   PTO was able to give $13,000 to the school last year, and another $5,000 to support the Bond Issue.

o   Santa’s Shop is negative because they have begun purchasing items for next year instead of using a company again.

 

·         Corresponding Secretary: Angie Linsky: (Angie will be running late, so updates were given by Mr. Kandel.)

o   Miss Smith got married. She is now Mrs. McClary.

o   Mrs. Nalepa had her baby at the end of the school year. It is a boy!

o   Ms. Dubinski is now Mrs. Deckerd

o   Willy’s father passed away.

 

·         Birthday Memorial: Mandi Stephenson:

o   Mandi hasn’t spoke with Lindsay yet.

o   She will meet with Mrs. Beachy after the PTO meeting.

 

·         Book Fair: OPEN

o   Still open if anyone would like to make the commitment.

 

·         Carnival: Angie Linsky, Michelle Fedor, and Jenny Anderson:

o   Scheduled in April, worked well last year after it had to be rescheduled due to snow day.

o   On Calendar for April 13, 2012

 

·         Celebration of Learning: Jenny Anderson

o   The Celebration of Learning went well.

 

·         Fundraiser: Angie Linsky and???

o   Angie needs a co-chair. This will be Angie’s last year

o   8/31- Great Western kick-off

o   Entertainment Books will begin the last 2 weeks in October.

 

·         Nominating: Pam Stewart:

o   Pam Stewart will take this position, no update

 

·         Hospitality: Amy Kunes and Dave Lloyd

o   Room Parent Tea (will discuss at next meeting)

 

·         Membership: Joanna Miller:

o   Info will be in folders next week.

 

·         Popcorn/Sno Kones: Michelle Fedor:

o   Have own machine, will not work with Lake Elem.

o   Will use lemonade to make snow cones. Sno Kones will be served in the afternoon.

o   Michelle will talk with teachers to see if they would rather pick up or have the sno kones brought to the classrooms. Mrs. Dills said it would probably be better to deliver.

o   Teachers will deliver popcorn money to the teacher lounge. Popcorn will remain at $.25 and sno kones will be free.

 

·         Publicity: Mary Pastore

o   Mary Pastore will take over this position.

 

·         Rebate: Billy Joe Muckley:

o   Third grade will continue to cut Box Tops/Campbell’s.

o   Gary purchased playground balls will the remaining money from Apples for Students.

 

·         Room Parents: Joanna Miller:

o   Joanna will be the chairperson. Jenny went over the information with her.

·         School Spirit: Jennifer Marshall and Mary Pastore:

o   Haven’t talked to store yet.

o   Will run in October

o   Would like to have samples prepared for Room Parent Tea, like last year and use the Display in the Rotunda.

 

·         Santa’s Shop: Cindy Kandel and Erica Rhodes

o   Bought stuff at Flower Factory (a ball last year cost $2.50 at Great Western, cost $1.00 at Flower Factory)

o   Looking for Dad Stuff. Jessica suggested saving 20% off coupons at Harbor Freight out of Coupon Section and Parade, use to buy dad stuff.

 

·         Schwan’s: Shannon Miller:

o   Would like to have teachers send out reminders in their newsletters, emails to let parents know when the sale dates are, as well.

o   Mr. Kandel will be able to send mass emails to parents, but does not want to send emails out too often. Email Mr. Kandel when there is a reminder to go out.

 

·         Scholarship: Mandi Stephenson:

o   Thank you note from recipient.

 

·         Special Services: OPEN:

o   School district now has a school nurse. No longer have to organize vision screening.

 

·         Yearbook: Angie Linsky and Michelle Fedor:

o   Will pick out cover in October.

o   Kimberly’s sister sent a Thank you note for the Tribute to Mrs. Bosko.

 

·         Teacher Representatives: Melissa Dills

o   Office and Lounge looks nice.

o   Thank you to volunteers who will be helping with KRA-L, the first day of school for Kindergarteners, and 1st day of lunch for Kindergarteners.

 

·         New Business:

o   We raised $1,164 for the American Cancer Society.

o   Four Square touched up and hopscotch has been added.

o   Pricing for new swings. Will see if Lake Elementary will split the cost.

 

·         Old Business:

o   No Old Business

 

·         Principal: Gary Kandel:

o   Gary’s uncle donated a bench and pot outside of the school in memory of Mrs. Bosko. Pat Randolph and Cindy Mullen planted flowers. Mrs. Bosko’s sister also sent a thank you note.

o   Gary would like to take a staff photo at the bench to send to Kimberly’s family and to Gary’s uncle.

o   Gary discussed the time change. The YMCA program will be available to students who need before school care. School doors will open at 8:20 for cafeteria supervision. Tardy Bell will ring at 8:45. Buses will let out at 8:35. This schedule change will give the teachers time in the morning to meet together for collaboration time. This change was necessary to accommodate the staff who retired. 12 staff retired, only 4 replaced.

o   The 2.3 mil Bond Issue will be on the ballot again. It will be the same plan as last time. 65% paid by the state. This is not Tax $$, it is Tobacco Settlement money. They will give specific information this time about how much it costs to run Hartville Elementary. Encourage parents to come to PTO meeting to get info on the Bond Issue.

 

                                      The meeting was adjourned at 11:00am.
