Classroom Placement Letters

March 5, 2012

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you for the support you have provided your child and our school district this year!

As we prepare to conclude this year, planning has begun for the 2012-2013 school year. Each year we reflect upon our best practices and focus on making Lake Elementary even better. At Lake Elementary, we have dedicated staff members who strive to provide a successful learning environment for all students. All classrooms at Lake Elementary promote and exhibit 21st century learning. Fourth and fifth grade teachers meet regularly to plan for units of study; therefore, all students benefit from the lesson design and projects created by staff.

Both Uniontown and Hartville Elementary Schools provide us with information about their students’ needs, personality, and/or learning style to assist us with scheduling. Information on students receiving specialized services and/or programming is also provided to us and utilized when creating their schedule.

We welcome and consider any thoughts you may have to assist in this process. However, we ask your support in NOT requesting a particular teacher and/or classroom for your child. For siblings in the same grade level, we can place your children on the same teaching team with a separate homeroom, in order that assignments will be same, yet provide the children with some independence from their sibling(s) throughout the school day.

If you have any distinct concerns about a particular placement, please let me know in writing by Friday, March 23. Any specific requests will certainly be acknowledged, but cannot be guaranteed.

Sincerely,

Donna Bruner

January News from Mrs. Bruner

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! We continue to focus on our school mission in 2012:
Providing Education to Achieve Success! We have had a wonderful first half of this school year and I am sure that the second half will be even better. There are several fun and exciting activities and events planned for students and staff.

We strive to be the Best organization for Learning! Lake Elementary School has received the National Blue Ribbon Award which is one of the highest academic achievement awards granted by the U.S. Department of Education. The Blue Ribbon Schools program honors schools that are high performing and have been ranked among the state’s highest performing schools over the past five years. Lake Elementary is 1 of 314 schools in the United States and 1 of 18 schools in the state of Ohio to receive such a prestigious award to be recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School.

As winter is upon us please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for recess.  I recommend a warm hat, gloves, and even boots, especially on snowy days. We only stay in if the wind chill is below 20 degrees. When we have indoor recess, we are trying to provide physical activities for students when possible. Lake Elementary has partnered with our YMCA to have scheduled events in the large gym to keep students active.

Lake Elementary is truly a special place to be. Our students are bright, young, caring individuals with so many great school and life lessons ahead of them. We are proud to be the educators of such incredible students. The academic progress that students have made will be showcased during conferences. Conferences are February 9 and 16 from 4:00-7:30 pm. We schedule student-led conferences at Lake Elementary and prefer that students attend their conference if at all possible.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Donna Bruner

October News from Mrs. Bruner

Dear Parents,

We are just concluding the first nine weeks of the school year. The students are adjusting very well to the intermediate grade levels. It is great to see all of them be so successful and they are an inspiration to have in the building. We are very proud of our students and their accomplishments.

Our vision is To be the best organization for learning and our mission is Providing education to achieve success. Lake Local Schools has earned an EXCELLENT rating from the state of Ohio for the past seven years. Lake Elementary School will receive the 2011 National Blue Ribbon Award for their high academic performance from the U.S. Department of Education in November. Congratulations students, teachers, and parents on this incredible achievement!

We can be very proud of the community service effort of our students. During a friendly team competition of Penny Wars, the students generated $1,653 for the American Cancer Society. This is certainly a generous donation to such a worthy cause.

Lake Elementary will have the Thanksgiving Food Drive during the week of November 14. There will be a list of items being collected posted on our website. We appreciate any and all donations given. After Thanksgiving, we will receive information for the Adopt-A-Family program. We have been able to support several families in our community during the holidays. Thank you for all of your support in helping others this holiday season.

Sincerely,

Donna Bruner

Lake YMCA/ Lake Elementary Lunchtime Exercise

Attention Parents:

WE need your help!  We all know the importance of exercise and socialization for our children.  The lack of supervision and space over the lunch hours forces us to move the kids into the auditorium when the weather does not allow for outdoor play.  The movies are a great way to entertain all of our children with the few staff that are available but movement and “play” is so much more important!

The Lake YMCA is working to team up with Lake Elementary to try to come up with a solution.  Some ideas are the days that the gym is open to take the kids down for gym games (Capture the Flag/Castleball etc.), walk the halls in a walking challenge.  Can all the students walk to Uniontown, California?  Other ideas were activities that the kids can play in their seats in the auditorium (Simon Says, fun dance songs etc.).

WE are asking for parent volunteers to come in and help supervise the “play” when we are forced to be inside.  Right now we are in the planning stages of this project and want to know how many parents are interested in getting involved a couple hours a month to help facilitate this program.  All volunteers must have a BCI/FBI background check completed before being permitted to help in the schools in this capacity.
Many hands make light work.  ~John Heywood
Thank you for your consideration and your continued commitment to enhancing the future of our community.

Sincerely,

Donna Bruner, Principal

Principal’s Message to Families:

Providing Education to Achieve Success is our mission here at Lake Elementary! Lake Elementary provides our students with an enriched and engaging curriculum. Our educational program is designed to meet the needs of each student so that everyone is successful and grows academically.  The staff and community of our school believe that every child is a unique and special individual who can learn.  We have developed a nurturing environment for learning and are committed to providing opportunities that will assist our students in making self-directed, realistic, and responsible decisions when solving problems in our ever-changing world.

Parents and guardians play a key role in the education of their children.  Your words of encouragement, hugs after a tough day at school, lunches with your child, and overall support go a long way in promoting student success.  As a staff, we value and appreciate when you meet and talk with us, join the PTO, and volunteer your time and energy.  Your involvement will show your children that you value their education. As partners in education, it is very important that teachers, parents, and administrators communicate openly and frequently concerning the progress of students. Let’s work together this year to make sure that all of our students are successful!
