Computer Laptops Will be Issued to Students in Grades 7-12 Before School Starts
Laptop computers will be issued to many smiling Lake Local students in grades 7-12 in late August, 2018 as a result of a technology initiative included in the school bond issue approved by Lake voters in May, 2015.  This will be the third year laptops have been issued to Lake students.
All laptops used last year by students were turned in last spring; students in grades 8, 9, 11, and 12 will continue to use the same laptop issued to them last year, while students in grades 7 and 10 will be issued new devices.

Update:  Students in grades 7-9 will return for their first day of school Sept. 4, 2018 in a newly remodeled/constructed Lake Middle/High School Tuesday, and students in grades 10-12 begin their school year on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018.   All students in grades 7- 12 should be at school Sept. 5, 2018.

Complete back to school forms online, and before picking up laptop computer
Parents in grades K-12 are encouraged to complete all necessary “beginning of school” online forms as soon as possible; these online forms should be completed for students in grades 7-12 ideally before they come to their laptop distribution event to expedite getting their devices at school.
Go to to complete and submit these forms online.

A student and one parent are asked to attend the ‘computer rollout’ events for grades 7-9 to receive their device.  Parent attendance at the laptop handout events with older students in grades 10-12 is optional.  District laptop guidelines, insurance options, and general information will be presented at each of these meetings; parents/students attending these meetings prior to the first day of school should enter the building using Doors 5 or 7.

Lake freshmen will be the first to receive their laptops Thursday, August 23, 2018 during a ninth grade open house program starting at 9 a.m. in the Performing Arts Hall (doors open at 8 a.m.) at Lake Middle/High School.

Eighth graders and their parents will receive their laptops while attending an open house later Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Lake Middle/High School.

The laptop distribution and open house for seventh graders will be Monday, August 27, 2018, from 6-8 p.m., and Tuesday, August 28, 2018 the laptop/schedule handout will take place for grades 10-12 from  noon – 3 p.m.

A “makeup time” for grades 7-9 to pick up laptops will also be offered August 28 from noon – 3 p.m.  An additional ’makeup time’ to pick up laptops/schedules will be offered to students in grades 10-12 from noon – 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018 during the first day of school for Lake students in grades 7-9.

Remember, all “beginning of school forms” must be completed and submitted online prior to a student receiving a laptop or schedule information.

Assistant Superintendent and Director of Technology Pat Carroll summarized the district’s long term plan to complete the rollout of computers to all the district’s students during the years ahead.

“Grades 7 -12 will be issued laptops for their use this year.  They will take them back and forth from school.  For grades lower than 7, computers will remain at school, and portable classroom carts including laptops for each student will be provided so that all students have access.  We accomplished this one-device-per-one-student initiative at grades 4, 5, and 6 last year,” began Carroll.

“Our goal is to continue using laptop carts for each student in classrooms at grade 2 and 3, which we hope to accomplish as we move into the new 2-6 school building during this upcoming 2018-2019 school year.  Our students in Kindergarten and first grade will have access to laptop carts in addition to their classroom iPads.”
