Lake Local Announces Delayed Start Dates, a Bus Shuttle for Home Football Games, and Immunization Clinic
Delayed Start Dates

Lake parents with children in grades 1-12 should note that the district has scheduled delayed starts to the school day on the dates below to allow for professional development training for staff. They will be focusing on best practices and continuing to blend learning, project-based learning, inquiry learning, and use of digital tools to promote student engagement and authentic learning.

The four delayed start dates are: Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017; Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017; Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018; and Wednesday, March 7, 2018. The weeks pass quickly when school is in session, so begin planning for these dates now.

Parents with students at both Hartville and Uniontown Elementary can plan for all buses to pick students up two hours after the normal pick up time. School will begin at 10:45 a.m., two hours later on these days, but will end at the normal time of 3:15 p.m.

At Lake Elementary, students will be dismissed from their buses at 10:35 a.m., and will be tardy as of 10:45 a.m. Hartville/Lake Elementary students that are dropped off by parents will enter the school using Door 7, while all bus riders will enter the building from the front of the school as usual. Their school day will also end at the standard dismissal time of 3:15 p.m.

At Lake Middle School, with the two-hour delay schedule our doors will open to students at 9:15 a.m. Students will be marked tardy as of 9:25 a.m. The school day will end at our usual time of 2:33 p.m., and students will use the same entrances and drop off locations as normal.

At Lake High School, students will have two- hour delayed starts the first Wednesday of each month, with the exception of January, 2018. Buses will run at their usual times, but classes will not begin until 9:29 a.m.; classes will end at the normal time of 2:33 p.m. Students should use the same doors to enter the school that they would normally use, and parking will remain the same. Lake Career Tech students who go to Hoover, GlenOak, and Jackson High Schools for programs will do so, as normal.

Use Bus Shuttle for Home Football Games
Beginning with the first home varsity football game Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 (Lake vs. Copley), and during every subsequent home game, the district will offer a complimentary bus shuttle service as a convenience to Lake football fans, and to eliminate some local traffic congestion. The service will also offset loss of football parking spaces due to current construction underway at Lake High School.
Two full size school buses will run continuously beginning at 5:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., picking up football fans at the parking lot of the Hartville MarketPlace and transporting them to Blue Streak Stadium. Fans can then get back on the bus for the return trip to the MarketPlace after the start of the fourth quarter. The service will continue until all fans have been transported.

Student Immunization Clinic Set

The State of Ohio now requires that students aged 16 years and older receive a booster dose of the meningitis vaccine. All students entering the twelfth grade at Lake High School (LHS) this fall will be REQUIRED to show proof of receiving a Meningococcal (A,C,Y,W-135) vaccine (to protect from meningitis) by the start of the 2017-18 school year.
A pupil who presents a written statement of the pupil's parent or guardian in which the parent or guardian declines to have the pupil immunized for reasons of conscience, including religious convictions, is not required to be immunized. Ohio Revised Code section 3313.67.

According to Ohio Revised Code section 3313.671 you must provide written proof of the completed immunization or a written statement declining the immunization by Thursday, September 7, 2017, or your student will be excluded from school as of that date. This will be considered an unexcused absence.

The Rite Aid Pharmacy will offer a meningitis vaccine clinic for LHS students ages 16 years and older Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 from 11:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. in the LHS Clinic. Student forms (downloadable from the district website – see under “Health Services,’ or pick up hard copies from the Clinic) must be completed and returned in advance to the LHS clinic by Friday, Sept. 1, 2017.

Payment will be based on insurance coverage. The price of the vaccine with no insurance coverage is $153.99. Rite Aid will verify your insurance coverage and contact you with the price you will need to pay for the vaccine. Payment will be due at the clinic (cash or check made payable to Rite Aid). Please contact Lauren, the pharmacist at Rite Aid Pharmacy in Canal Fulton (330-854-6618) or Therese Gilbert, Lake Local School Nurse, at 330-877-4282, for more info.
