Computer Laptops Will be Issued to Lake Students in Grades 7-12 Before School Starts
Laptop computers will be issued to many smiling Lake Local students in grades 7-12 in early August, 2017 as a result of a technology initiative included in the school bond issue approved by Lake voters in May, 2015.

This year an additional grade level, seventh grade, will be issued a laptop computer, joining grades 8-12 that were the first to receive a laptop during the 2016-2017 school year.

All laptops used last year by students were turned in, and have been serviced and cleaned. Each student will continue to use the same laptop issued to them last year when they return to school August 17, 2017.

Complete back to school forms online, and before picking up laptop computer
Parents in grades K-12 are encouraged to complete all necessary “beginning of school” online forms as soon as possible; these online forms should be completed for students in grades 7-12 ideally before they come to their laptop distribution event to expedite getting their devices at school. Go to to complete these forms.

A student and one parent are required to be in attendance at each of these ‘rollout’ events to receive their device. District laptop guidelines, insurance options, and general information will be presented at each of these meetings lasting at least an hour.

Lake freshmen will be the first to receive their laptops Thursday, August 3, 2017 during a ninth grade orientation program starting at 8 a.m. at Lake High School. Please enter via Door 5
An Open House for laptop and class schedule distribution for high school students in grades 10-12 will follow Wednesday, August 9, 2017 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Lake High School. NOTE: Students (and a parent) with last names starting with letters A-L should arrive at 6 p.m., and those with last names starting with letters M-Z should arrive at 7:30 p.m. Please enter using Door 5.

The dates for laptop distribution at Lake Middle School will be August 14, 2017, beginning at 7 p.m. for the eighth grade laptop distribution, and August 15, 2017 at 7 p.m. for the seventh grade distribution.   Along with the laptop distribution, Lake Middle School will also be piloting a program to provide a laptop case for each student to help protect their device.

Carroll summarized the district’s long term plan to complete the rollout of computers to all the district’s students during the years ahead. “Grades 7 -12 will be issued laptops for their use this year.  They will take them back and forth from school.  For grades lower than 7, computers will remain at school, and portable classroom carts including laptops for each student will be provided so that all students have access.  We will be able to accomplish this 1-1 initiative at grades 4, 5, and 6 during the current 2017-2018 school year.”

“Our goal is to continue using laptop carts for each student in classrooms at grade 2 and 3, which we hope to accomplish as we move into the new 2-6 school building when it’s completed tentatively during the 2018-2019 school year. Our students in Kindergarten and first grade will have access to laptop carts in addition to their classroom iPads.”
