Lake Elementary Receives State Momentum Award for Second Straight Year
Lake Elementary School learned this week that it will receive the Momentum award from the State Board of Education for the second consecutive year.

“This is a very difficult goal to achieve and even more special meeting the criteria two years in a row.  All of you are very deserving of this recognition!  Congratulations to everyone!” stated Principal Donna Bruner in an e–mail sent to her school staff Tuesday night.
The Momentum award is given annually by the State Board of Education to recognize schools and districts that receive straight A’s on all-valued added measures on their state report card.  An ‘A’ on the progress report indicates students made significantly more than expected improvement during a school year.

To be eligible, the school or district also must have enough students in at least two value-added subgroups, which include gifted students, students with disabilities, and students whose academic performance is in the lowest 20 percent of students statewide.

Last year Paolo DeMaria, Ohio Superintendent of Public Instruction, briefly visited Lake Elementary with other educational leaders after the school received the Momemtum award.

The State Board of Education also awarded its Momentum Award to these other Stark County schools:

Cedar Elementary in the Canton City School District
• East Canton Middle School in the Osnaburg Local School District
• Glenwood Intermediate in the Plain Local School District
• Orchard Hill Intermediate School in the North Canton City School District
• Northwest Middle School and W.S. Stinson Elementary, both located in the Northwest Local School District

North Canton City Schools also received the Momentum Award at the district level for the first time.  Statewide, a total of 64 districts and 214 schools earned the award for 2017.
