Info to Fight the Opioid & Heroin Epidemic
"Epidemic Stark County 2017" is an opioid and heroin awareness toolkit/prevention guide that will be coming home with every 6th – 12th grader on Sept. 20, 2017.  Stark County residents may also find a copy in your mailbox, at work, or in the Canton Repository on that day.

The goal is to offer residents in Stark County a guide to starting the conversation in their homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods.  By educating and informing the community, together we can help stem the devastating opioid addiction epidemic that is pervading Stark County.

According to a July, 2017 Canton Repository article, “Lives lost: No quick fix for Stark’s opioid epidemic,” “More than 300 men and women have died in Stark County from opioid-related overdoses since 2012. The oldest to die was 68; the youngest was 19.  Last year, the Coroner’s Office investigated 102 overdose deaths linked to opioids.  Doctors in Stark County have cut the number of opioids they prescribe on a per capita basis, but deadlier synthetics, such as fentanyl and carfentanil, have filled the gap and even replaced heroin.”

Visit to find out more about how addiction has affected our own Lake community.  At the Breaking Barriers website, you can learn more about this epidemic, become an advocate, find resources and support, and how you can support a recovery community center for our own community.

Learn about The Well – a grief support group to cope with the loss of a loved one to addiction, and Loving with Grace - a support group for families struggling with someone with addiction.

Thank you for your help in reviewing this info, and starting conversations to help stop the continued misuse of opioids and heroin in our community. Effective prevention begins with honest conversations.
