Farewell Hartville/Lake Elementary - Shuttle, Parking, Fleamarket, Wooden Seats, and More
Lake Local Schools, the Lake Township Historical Society, and Lake Township Schools Alumni are partnering to present a Farewell Hartville and Lake Elementary: A Celebration of Memories event Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 4-8 p.m., with special activities taking place in both buildings during this time.

Read the following updates below regarding this event!

A complimentary bus shuttle service will be available to alleviate parking issues during the event.  The pickup point will be in the Blue Streak Stadium parking lot; hours will be from approximately 3:45 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Parking for senior citizens attending the event will be close to doors 7 and 11 for easy access to LE's big gym.  Lake staff wearing bright orange vests will direct parking into these places.  The main entrance into the event will be Door 3 at Lake Elementary.

NEW:  A "Lake Memorabilia Fleamarket" will be staged in the Lake Elementary big gym from 4-8 p.m.!  Find classic old black-and-white photos of Lake sports teams and athletes, old score books, certificates, documents, scrapbooks, and much more on several tables in the LE big gym!   Offer cash donations for items you want, and they are yours.  Cash only please!

NEW:  Old wooden seats from the HE Auditorium balcony (with less wear and in good condition) will be among live auction items sold April 7 starting at 7 p.m.  in the Lake Elementary big gym. These are one-of-a-kind Lake pieces, ready for you to take home.  If you want to buy one that night, think about how to get it home.  Trucks with flat beds would be perfect.  Among the small items are unique older trophies won by Lake teams through the years.

NEW (adjusted time for Silent Auction):  Gift baskets donated by local businesses and more will be part of the silent auction that night, on display from 4 – 6:30 p.m.  in the Lake Elementary big gym.  Winning bids for the silent auction will be announced before the start of the live auction.

NEW: Lake varsity basketball coach Tom McBride will organize the basketball free throw contest between Lake alumni from years past vs. his current roster of varsity players.  This will be staged in the Lake Elementary big gym from 4-6 p.m. (or possibly longer.)   If you are a Lake alumnus and want to be part of this friendly contest, contact Tom ASAP to help him organize this event at mcbridetom@lakelocal.org, OR call Karen Koch at 330-877-7628, or e-mail her at kochkaren@lakelocal.org.

NEW: During the first program starting at 4:15 p.m. in the Hartville Elementary auditorium, after our musicians perform, the second half of the hour will be allotted to guest speakers who will briefly share memories or special ties (three minutes per speaker) they have to Lake Schools.

Update:  Additional commemorative ‘Hartville School’ ornaments, sold by the Lake Township Historical Society, are available for purchase now, and will be during the April 7 event at a booth in the school.  A limited supply is available, so purchase one soon if you want one.   Contact Dana Protsman at dprotsman@neo.rr.com to reserve one.

Also remember commemorative Farewell Hartville/Lake Elementary t-shirts are available now by pre-order and prepayment through April 6, and also will be sold at a t-shirt table during the event April 7.  Click here for more info.  Another reminder:  If you plan to have chili dinner at our event, call to make reservations by April 6, 2018 by calling Karen Buckel, Hartville Elementary secretary, at 330-877-4278, or Lisa Weiland, Lake Elementary secretary, at 330-877-4276 during school hours!

Lake resident Mosey Gingerich will ring a school bell in the school hallways that evening at 4:30 p.m., letting people know dinner is being served in the Lake Elementary cafeteria.  He will also ring the bell at 4:15 p.m. and 6 p.m. to signify the start of two programs in the Hartville Elementary auditorium.

NOTE:  Proceeds from Lake Local's sale of t-shirts, a portion of the meal proceeds, and from Lake Local fleamarket and silent/live auction items will go toward creation of outdoor learning spaces near the new school buildings, and a new Historic Hallway within the new Lake Elementary building.

Sales of Lake Township Historical Society (LTHS) items during the silent/live auction, and a portion of meal proceeds, will benefit the LTHS.   Stay tuned for more details to come about this event!
