The end of the 2nd nine weeks period is Thursday, January 12th.  Report cards will go home on Friday, January 20th.


There is no school for students on Friday, January 13th and Monday, January 16th.

Mann's Minutes

Reading:
This week, we are reading the book What Will the Weather Be?  We will be discussing various types of weather and the four seasons.  We will also learn about comparing and contrasting.

Phonics/Spelling:
We will be learning about digraphs this week.  Our spelling words will contain digraphs.  This week's words are chat, lunch, much, fresh, shade, truth, think, with, where, which, why, and *shadow.

Math:
We will begin Unit 5 on geometry.  We will learn about attribute rules, line segments, parallel lines, and 2D and 3D shapes.

Look what's happening this week!

​Reading:

This week, we will be reading the book Ox Cart Man.  We will discuss the way things were long ago.  We will learn new vocabulary words and continue to practice answering literal and inferential comprehension questions.


Spelling:

This week our spelling words focus on the long i souns.  Our words this week are mine, time, dime, nine, lines, side, lie, ties, buy, sky, myself, *tried.

Phonics:

We will continue to learn about verbs.

Writing:

We will practice writing friendly letters.

Math:

We will continue working in Unit 3.  We will review how to solve frames-and-arrows problems using two rules.  We will also review telling time and learn how to make change.

Conferece Nights...

Don't forget that Fall Conferences are right around the corner!  Conferences are being held on Thursday, October 6th, Tuesday, October 11th, and Thursday, October 13th.  Individual conference times have been sent home by the homeroom teachers.  The homeroom teacher(s) and I will be holding conferences together.  We look forward to seeing you soon!!!

Look what's happening this week!

​Reading:

We will be reading the book Arthur Meets the President.  We will review basic story elements by filling out a story map to identify the characters, setting, events, problem, and solution.  The students will also learn new story vocabulary words and practice answering literal and inferential comprehension questions.

Spelling:

This week's spelling list will focus on the short o sound.  The words are top, lot, stop, job, slot, drop, spot, dock, hot, box, and robot.  The bonus * word is hockey. 

Writing:

We will learn about nouns.  We will also learn the difference between a common noun and a proper noun.  There is a great video on nouns on the following website... www.brainpopjr.com  When you get to the website, type in "noun" in the search box and it will take you to the free video.  We will also continue to practice writing complete sentences.

Math:

We will continue to practice solving addition number stories and basic addition facts.  We will also review solving subtraction facts.  There are some great online games that focus on these skills.  If you have time, here are some great websites for addition and subtraction~ www.funbrain.com and www.arcademicskillbuilders.com.

Look what's happening this week!

Reading:  This week we will be reading the book Seven Blind Mice.  We will focus on sequencing events.  We will also be completing our September Fiction and Nonfiction assessments.

Spelling:​  This week is a review week.  Please review the words from the last 3 weeks.  You can find the word lists in your child's agenda or in the newsletter emailed to you on Monday, Sept. 26th.  The assessment will be over 10 of the words and there will also be 2 dictation sentences.

Phonics:  We are still learning about rhyming words.  We will complete an assessment over rhyming words this week.

Writing:  We will learn about nouns.  We will also write a descriptive paragraph about our summer vacation.

Math:  We will practice solving addition number stories and easy addition facts.

September 20
Look what's happening this week!

​Reading:  We will be reading the book Frog and Toad. We will make predictions, answer literal and inferential comprehension questions, and complete a story response book. 

 

Phonics: We will learn about rhyming words.  We will practice matching rhyming pictures, identify groups of rhyming words, and play rhyming games.

 

Spelling:  This week's spelling list focuses on the short e sound.  The spelling words for this week are if, is, did, his, sip, flip, trip, kick, digs, this, trick, sister.

 

Writing:  We will continue to work on capitalization rules and end punctuation.  We will complete an assessment covering capitalization and punctuation.  We will begin to learn about nouns.  We will write about our story Frog and Toad and practice writing descriptive sentences.

 

Math:  We will review unit 1 and complete the Unit 1 assessment.  We will begin reviewing how to solve basic addition facts.

What's Happening in Miss Mann's room this week...

​Reading:  We will be reading the book Nate the Grate.  We will learn about being a detective and solving mysteries.  We will make predictions, answer literal and inferential comprehension questions, and complete a story quiz at the end of the week.

 

Phonics:  We will continue to practice identifying beginning and ending sounds of words.  We will learn about identifying medial sounds of words too.

 

Spelling:  This week's spelling list focuses on the short e sound.  The spelling words for this week are pen, wet, else, legs, went, sent, fed, vet, rest, left, end, said.

 

Writing:  We will continue to work on capitalization rules and end punctuation.

 

Math:  We will review telling time, solving addition and subtraction facts, counting 

money, and place value.

 

September 06
What we're learning about this week...

Reading: This week we will be reading the story Emily and Alice Again.  We will practice making predictions and sequencing events.  We will also answer questions about basic story elements (characters, setting, problem, solution, events)

 

Phonics/Spelling:  This week we will focus on identifying ending sounds of words.  This week’s spelling words are has, ran, grab, sat, as, bats, flat, last, man, band, & plan.  The bonus word is grandma.

 
 

Writing:  This week we will continue to learn about capitalization and punctuation when writing sentences.

 
 

Math:  This week we will writing 1-digit, 2 digit, and 3-digit numbers.  We will also learn about number patterns, complete number grid puzzles, and review time and money.
