Mrs. Hollaway's Science Page
The fourth nine weeks, we are concentrating Life Science (plants).
Keep reviewing Science Safety Guidelines (this will be tested throughout the entire year).
The first part of plants will focus on the parts of the plants and their functions (examples: the roots absorb nutrients and water from the soil and anchor the plant; roots are important for survival of the plant; leaves absorb energy from the sun to produce food; leaves are important for survival of the plant; the seed produces a new plant; seeds are important for reproduction; the stem supports the plant and carries nutrients and water to other parts of the plant; stems are important for survival; flowers create new seeds; flowers are important for reproduction). A performance assessment will be given for the parts of the plant and their functions (tentative date will be the week of April 16).
We will then study seed dispersal, characteristics of leaves, comparing/contrasting flowering plants and conifers, and the life cycle of plants. Quiz and Test dates will be determined later. There will also be a Scientific Investigation quiz (tomato plants/rye grass).
