​Monday:  last day in class to work on final project.  These projects are due at the beginning of class on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

Tuesday:  Finish the last chapter of The Pearl.  Choice of final test options.  This assignment is due by Thursday, May 24, for credit.

Wednesday:  Turn in final projects. Begin oral presentations.

Thursday:  Time in class for The Pearl test.  Hand back projects.  Reflection and parent signature option.

Friday:  In class oral presentations.

​Monday:  hand back projects.  Begin oral presentations. Bonus points will be given if students dress up for their scheduled presentations.  Parent signatures are due by Wednesday, May 23, for any credit.

Tuesday:  continue with oral presentations.  Tomorrow is last day to turn in reflection for credit.

Wednesday:  continue with oral presentations

Thursday:  last day to present project choice.  

Friday:  Positive statement poem.  Using the comments from classmates, each student will create a poem that demonstrates their strengths.  Poems must be glued down and signed by end of periood for credit.

​Monday:

Turn in final copy of color poem with song explanation.  Begin discussion of The Pearl by going over test from Friday.  Begin reading Chapter VI on page 705 in literature book.  Finish with video of this work.

Tuesday: Continue with discussion of Chapter VI and the video.  Final test options will be discussed.


Wacky Wednesday:

Gabe

Begin to organize their final project.  Hand back color poems and songs.  Pull out checklist and go through returned pieces and decide which are in a final stage.  Students should be correcting their work and saving on a flash drive. 

Thursday:

Continue working on final project.  

Friday:

Work day.  Students will be continuing on their journey to complete their final project.  All work should be edited, organized, numbered and ready to print.  Final projects are due on Monday, May 20 at the end of the period.

​This week will be devoted to publishing their final 8th grade writing project.  All students need to have flashdrives and copies of previously graded papers.  Binders for this project will be provided through student fees for English.  Students should keep their checklist rubric handy to keep track of their work.  All projects must be turned in by the end of class on Friday, May 18, 2012.

Monday:  Organizing pieces, deciding on order of work, correcting pieces, taking off headings, and adding titles.

Tuesday:  Create a playlist and print out Thanks page and repetend explanation.

Wacky Wednesday:

Period 2:  work day

Period 4:  Amanda

Period 5: Daniel R

Thursday:

Number pages with thin black marker.  Create a Table of contents.  Paste repetend on every page.  Use checklist to determine missing parts.

Friday:  Select piece for oral presentation.  sign up for date to present.

Turn in projects at the end of class period.

​Monday:

Discussion of Chapter 3 in The Pearl.  Final copy of second part of final project due on Tuesday as well as the song explanation.

Tuesday:

Work day:  After handing in writing piece, students may read Chapter 4 &5 in The Pearl, which is due on Thursday, May 10, 2012.  Work on color poem and song explanation.

Wacky Wednesday:

Thursday:

Quick quiz on comprehension of Chapters 4 & 5.  Discussion of songs, themes, character development and how setting influences action.  Chapter 6 is to be read by Monday, May 14. 

Friday:

Work day - students should have a final copy of their color poem with song explanation due by the end of the period.  Anyone finishing early should complete study guide for The Pearl- chapter 6.

​Monday:

Final copy of second life map piece with song explanation are due on Tuesday.  Students were also to select their personal choice piece from writing folder.  A typed song explanation for this piece is due on Thursday, May 10.

Tuesday:

Grammar practice. Repetend explanation.  Students should begin to develop their repetend, recurring image, for their final project.  If this is coming from the internet, they should include the URL.  A written explanation for this decision should also be in draft form by Thursday, May 10, 2102.

Thursday:

Turn in personal choice song explanation for full credit.  Grammar Practice. Begin the writing of their Thanks Page for final project.  Draft should be completed by end of period.

Grammar Test. Progress checklist on final project.  Students will need a flashdrive for next week.

​Tuesday:  Break into groups to work on song writing for one of the songs from Chaper 1 &2 of The Pearl.  Students should discuss their study guides and review vocabulary at this time.  Give quiz 1.  Assign next reading:  Chapter 3 pages 685 -692 for Thursday, May 3, 2012.  Songs are due on Thursday as well.

Wacky Wednesday:  Dillon is the leader of the day.  As students finish, they should get into their groups for the song writing.  Song and chapter 3 work is due on Thursday.

Thursday:  Share songs.  Return quizzes. Discussion of Chapter 3 led by students responsible for assigned questions.  Hand out prepared quiz #2 and take independently.  Assign new reading work:  Chapters 4 & 5 pages 693 - 703 for Tuesday, May 8, 2012.

Friday:  Work day:

1.  Revise and edit second piece for final project

2.  Compose a song explanation for above piece.

3.  Begin reading assignment for Tuesday.

Writing pieces from 1 & 2 are due typed in final form on Tuesday, May 8, 2012.

​Monday:  Turn in second piece of writing for final draft.  Brainstorm ideas for best friend activity.  Typed drafts should come in tomorrow for full credit.

Tuesday:  Create a recipe poem.  This will simply be a draft, but students may use this as a model for their personal choice piece in final project.

Thursday:  Peer revising and editing session.  Final draft of this paper is due on Tuesday, May 8 as well as a song explanation for piece.

Friday:  Progress on project checkup.  Mini lesson on possible poem for choice piece.  Final draft of the second piece of writing is due on Tuesday, May 8, 2012.

​Monday:

Pass our final project requirements with new due dates.  Students are to revise their "Where I'm From" poems, choose a theme song for this piece and compose an explanatory paragraph about the connection between poem and song.  This is due on Friday, April27, 2012.

Tuesday:

Begin "The Pearl" reading assignment in the literature book.  Discussion will take place in class about the dreams for our future and background sharing about author and setting.  Students will receive a 4 page handout with vocabulary, guided questions, and a chart to complete for Thursday, April 26.  They are to read pages 674 - 684 to complete this assignment.

Wednesday:

Wacky Wednesday--River

Thursday:

Quick write and quiz.  Book discussion using study guide questions as guidance.  "Songs" will be discussed and students will begin to fill in chart from Tuesday's packet.  New handouts will be issued and students will need to have pages 685 -692 completed by Tuesday, May 1, 2012.

Friday:

Hand in song explanation for "Where I'm From" poem.  Poetry workshop for color poem.

​Monday:

Hand out project packet with requirements and rubric.  Tomorrow is OAA Reading test.  Students will need #2 pencils, not mechanical pencils, a good breakfast, and something to read when they finish.  Final copy of song explanation for "Where I'm From" is due on Friday, April 27, 2012.

Tuesday:

1/2 group will work on diagramming sentences while the other half work on revising "Where I'm From" poem and creating a song explanation.

Wacky Wednesday:  All returned work should be corrected and saved for final project.

Thursday:

1/2 will work on sentence diagramming while the other work on "Where I'm From" revising and song explanation.  Song explanation is due on Friday, April 27, 2012.
