Dear Lake Elementary Families,
One of our biggest celebrations is that we have made it through our first four weeks of school successfully. Our students and staff are doing a wonderful job settling into the daily routines. We are so thankful to have our students in the building.
The midpoint of the first nine week grading period is on September 22nd. Our Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for October 1, 6, and 8 from 3:30-8:00 pm. We look forward to meeting with our parents to discuss student progress. You are able to schedule a conference through My Conference Time which can be found on our district website under the “Parent” tab. You simply select “Schedule Lake Elementary Conferences” on the middle of the page. A letter is attached to this newsletter and will be coming home with your child that provides instructions for signing up for a conference. Parents of students who attend school in the building will have conferences in person while Lake Virtual Academy parents will have conferences virtually through a Google Meet. If you are uncomfortable coming into the building, please contact your homeroom teacher directly to schedule a virtual or phone conference. My Conference Time Scheduling Instructions
All safety protocols will be followed during conferences. Parents and staff will be required to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. There is a limit of two parents/guardians for conferences and NO students or siblings should attend.
Next week your child will be bringing home an Acceptable Use Policy for laptops and digital devices. Please review, sign and return the last page of the policy to your child’s homeroom teacher.
I appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to take steps to keep students and staff safe, as well as remain in the school building.
Dear Lake Elementary Parents,
We had another wonderful week at Lake Elementary with the conclusion of Patriot Day. Our students showed great pride for those who serve by wearing red, white and blue. A small group of sixth grade choir students sang our National Anthem and God Bless America. We have young, exceptional talent in our building.
There will be Picture Day for our students on Monday, September 28 for second, third and fourth grade and Wednesday, September 30 for fifth and sixth grade. Only individual pictures will be taken, no class picture at this time. In place of the class picture, students will receive a composite picture instead. (Refer to attachment for an example of a composite picture.) Our Lake Virtual Academy students will have an optional Picture Day in early October and will be able to take individual pictures along with a composite image too. Specific details are coming soon. I want to thank you for all of your support with the opening of school. Your positive feedback and kind messages are deeply appreciated. I can speak for our entire staff, that we enjoy having our students back at Lake Elementary.
Donna Bruner, Principal
I understand that there are many changes with the reopening of school this year, but be assured that we are all in this together working towards the same goal and district mission, which is Educating generations, serving our community. We anticipate a very successful year here at Lake Elementary, whether you have chosen to attend in person or through online learning.
Just a few reminders that masks are required while in the building. Please bring a mask and a baggie to store your mask in when you are at recess and eating your lunch. We will follow safety protocols by washing hands and using hand sanitizer. There will be mask breaks throughout the school day.
Our Lake Virtual Academy students will have orientation and laptop pick up this first week of school. Please register for an appointment for orientation through My Conference Time at https://www.myconferencetime.com/lakeelementary/ if you have not already done so.
Our student day is 8:55 AM- 3:25 PM and students who are not riding a bus can be dropped off at door #5 from 8:30 AM- 8:50 AM. If your child is riding the bus, you can access your bus number and approximate pick up/drop off times posted on our district website on the transportation page. School buses will be on the north side of the building, while all cars will be on the south side of the building. All cars enter from Belle St. and exit on the south side onto Lincoln Street near Hartville Park. For everyone’s safety, we need to make sure that vehicles and buses are not in the same area.
Parents choosing to do parent pick up will now be asked to remain in their vehicle and form a line along the sidewalk. Parents/guardians/approved adults will be asked to display (on their dashboard) the school issued ID card sent home on the first day of school as they drive up to Door #5. For more details regarding parent drop off and pick up, refer to the “parent pickup” document on our website.
We are looking forward to a wonderful school year! If there is any way we can be of assistance to you or your child during the year, feel free to call the office at 330-877-4276 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
It is hard to believe that it is August. As you know, we are working diligently on the reopening of school. We are very much looking forward to having our students back in the building and/or in Lake Virtual Academy with us.
Please complete the parent survey to let us know if you have selected option 1- attending school in person or option 2- online instruction taught by Lake staff. This will help us in our planning and preparation for the first day of school. If you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out to us so that we can assist you in making a well informed decision for your child(ren).
As shared in the reopening of the school plan- https://www.lakelocal.org/Content2/return-to-school-plan our school day has been slightly modified with our start time as 8:55 am and end time as 3:25 pm. This will help the bussing of K-6 students and drop off and pick up at both buildings. There will be slight changes to our student drop off and pick up. You will receive a child-specific sign issued by the office for your vehicle, so that you can remain in your car. More information is forthcoming.
The updated supply lists for each grade level are posted on our website. Lysol and baby wipes were removed because we recognize those items are very difficult to locate at this time. Please don’t worry if you are unable to find certain items on the supply list. We have various school items that have been donated that we can provide to your child. If you ordered a Toolbox Kit, those will be delivered to the classroom for your child and we will make arrangements for our students who are attending Lake Virtual Academy to pick up their toolbox of school supplies. Cleaning of school items will be a major priority, and the school will supply staff with the proper cleaning materials.
Just a reminder that yearbook distribution is this Wednesday, August 5 from 5:00-7:30 pm at door #5 of Lake Elementary. Please remain in your car and place a sign with your child(ren)’s first and last name in your passenger window so we can more easily retrieve your yearbook. If you are unable to come during this time, we will have your yearbook for your child on the first day of school. If you will be attending Lake Virtual Academy, we will make arrangements with you to receive your yearbook at that meeting.
Our traditional Meet the Teacher night has been cancelled. A video to meet the teacher and classroom will be provided with a Q&A session available on Google Meet. You will receive a teacher placement letter in the mail before August 15 that will include specific details about the virtual Meet the Teacher and the school year. Your teacher will also be sending you an email invitation/link too. Below are the dates for Meet the Teacher by grade level, so you can plan accordingly.
I thank you for all of your support during this time. We are here to ensure your child has a great year. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have at email@example.com or 330-877-4276.
