I hope that all of you have settled into our school year. As we enter into the final weeks of the 1st quarter of school it is our hope that you are finding the success you want. This has certainly been an interesting and challenging year in dealing with all the aspects of the pandemic. We are grateful that we are able to have school in person and also provide an alternative for those who cannot attend in person. Currently about 88% of our student population is attending in person five days a week. A lot of folks worked diligently in preparing our schools and our staff in order to be able to open in such a fashion. We are grateful to our staff, our students and all of our stakeholders who are doing their part to insure that we remain vigilant in our efforts in combating the COVID-19 virus. Please continue the good work, and do your part.
Most recently, we received news of our school report card. For the 5th year in a row Lake Local has the highest performance index of any school in Stark County. We are very proud of our results, and we will continue to chase excellence in all that we do. We are blessed with great people at Lake in all areas. A committed staff, great young people, and engaged families and community make this the very best place to be an educator.
Annually, in November we have the opportunity to give thanks to our Veterans who have served our nation and to also thank those who continue to serve to protect the freedoms that we get to enjoy each and every day. As I have said and echo the thoughts of many others, Freedom is not Free! Lake Middle High School will not be able to host our veterans on November 11th and recognize them for their service due to the ongoing concerns regarding the pandemic. I hope you can find the time to thank a veteran over the coming days.
We are getting to the end of our fall sports season and again, we are grateful for the opportunities for our student athletes to compete. We know the time and effort they put into their respective sports and we wish all of them the very best as we enter into our post season tournaments.
We have been fortunate enough to continue with our marching band this fall, although some adjustments had to be made to make this possible. It has been another positive marching season for our students. They continue to represent so very well and make Lake proud.
We do realize that the pandemic has hit many families very hard. If we can be of any assistance in finding proper support, please feel free to reach out to us. We are here to serve our children and serve our community. I thank you for your continued support and dedication to Lake Local Schools.
