Curriculum and Instruction
Lake Local has developed curriculum based upon the Ohio’s Learning Standards. Our teachers regularly participate in professional learning communities and are heavily involved in staff development opportunities focusing on standards based-education, data analysis, assessment, instruction, technology integration, and project-based learning. Our district commitment is "Preparing students to unlock their potential for a lifetime of success”. Staff from each building has developed action plans consistent with our district goals and objectives.
Lake identifies every opportunity to embed technology across the curriculum, exposing students with the 21st century tools they will need when they enter the workforce. Our curriculum maps are formatted electronically to enable teachers to constantly update lesson plans, resources and assessments during collaborative planning. Teachers regularly use wall mounted monitors, interactive displays, and laptops to share information with students. We have implemented one to one computing for grades K-12. Our staff works collegially and is very involved in teaming at all grade levels and content areas. Teachers have common planning which allows us to effectively collaborate and team together. We are pleased with our 2023 School Report Card. Our district finished 1st in Stark County for the 8th straight year with our performance index.
Lake provides high quality programming including: advanced placement, career tech prep, college credit plus classes, gifted education programs, robust fine arts programs, K-12 robotics program, special needs programming and an expansive extracurricular program. Both Lake Elementary and Lake Middle School have been recognized as an Overall A Award winner by the State Board of Education on their report cards. Both schools also have been recognized for receiving the Momentum Award by the State Board of Education for exceeding expectations in student growth for the year.
Lake Middle/High School was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award for 2023. The recognition is based on the school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing the achievement gaps among student groups on State Assessments. “The honorees for our 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award have set a national example for what it means to Raise the Bar in education,” said U.S Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.
